WHAT IS CHLAMYDIA?
It's an infection which can be passed on during sex, including oral sex.
It's the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the UK,
and can affect both men and women.
On Wirral, 1 in 8 young people (aged 24 and under) tested are found to have
Chlamydia.
It often shows no symptoms, so many people have Chlamydia without actually
knowing.
Without taking a test you will not know whether you have it! If left undetected,
Chlamydia can develop and cause serious health problems in the future, including
long term complications such as infertility - in men and women.
HOW COULD I GET
CHLAMYDIA?
Chlamydia is passed by having sex (vaginal, anal or oral, or by sharing sex toys) with someone who already has Chlamydia. You only need to have sex with somebody who has Chlamydia once – and you will be at risk of the infection passing to you.
Put your mind at rest and take the test!
WHAT IF I HAVE SYMPTOMS?
The Chlamydia screening programme Eazeescreen test is available for people who aren’t having symptoms, and simply want to make sure they have not been at risk.
If you are having any symptoms of an infection , or something doesn’t quite feel right – you should head to the Wirral sexual health clinic.
On Wirral there are clinics based at Arrowe Park Hospital, Claughton Medical Centre and in Wallasey at Victoria central Hospital.

HOW CAN I PROTECT MYSELF FROM GETTING CHLAMYDIA?
Using condoms every time you have sex can reduce the risks of getting or passing on chlamydia and other sexually transmitted infections.
We advise you have regular Chlamydia testing , especially when you change your sexual partner – or if you feel your sexual partner may have had sex with
somebody else.
